The Legislative and Public Policy Committee exists to build advocacy skills and develop advocacy resources within the Association aligned with the national standards of our practice. They promote effective legislation within NC that supports retention and recruitment of School Psychologists and public policy supportive of comprehensive practices in schools. They support the Association’s understanding and advocacy of current legislation affecting the profession.
The Legislative and Public Policy Committee shall:
Facilitate the development of the annual Legislative/Public Policy Agenda
File the annual registration report on our Lobbying Services with the NC Secretary of State and file the Zero Expense Form with the NC Secretary of State.
Monitor State Board of Education Agendas and Reports and determine if attendance at the meeting is warranted.
Represent NCSPA and advocate for school psychologists at various state meetings.
Educate the Board and members about legislative process, public relations, grassroots advocacy, and the use of the NASP Advocacy Action Center. Expand efforts annually determined by board’s strategic plan.
Maintain connections with NASP via opportunities such as NASP Public Policy Institute (PPI).
Monitor NASP Netscan for North Carolina Legislation related to NCSPA.
Maintain communications with the NCSPA lobbyist and DPI School Psychologist representative.
Represent NC with the NASP Government Professional Relations (GPR) committee as a state liaison.
Provide Community and Undergraduate Outreach via NCSPA Student Representative
