School Safety & Crisis Response Committee
The School Safety and Crisis Response Committee exists to promote safe learning environments for North Carolina PreK-12 schools by providing training, consultation, and supports to promote a comprehensive approach to school safety.
COVID-19 Resources - Crisis Response in a Virtual Environment helps school districts and crisis responders identify crisis response protocols during a pandemic.
The School Safety and Crisis Response Committee shall:
- host, develop, and provide trainings related to school safety and crisis response. These trainings will promote a balance of physical and psychological safety.
- provide resources and updates to the membership on school safety, crisis intervention, natural disasters, and related topics.
- collaborate with North Carolina school districts and other states for school safety and crisis response.
- emphasize that school psychologists play a critical role in creating safe and supportive learning environments that promote student learning and are critical members of school crisis prevention and response teams and promote school psychologist involvement in school safety action planning.
- advocate for evidence-based initiatives at the local, state, and federal levels, which create safe and supportive learning environments that naturally prevent violence and ensure that students have access to the supports they need to be successful both inside and outside of the classroom. School Psychologist expertise in threat assessment, student safety, mental health, and social emotional learning is critical to a comprehensive school safety plan for school districts and schools.
